Most religions are proud of their outreach services to the less fortunate. Food kitchens, housing services, assistance to proven addiction control programs like Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonmyous, etc. For $cientology, on the other hand, the only "charitable" opportunities that are of interest are those that contribute to the bottom line.

Enter Narconon, the opportunity for $cientology to make money from drug addicts, their families, and guillible government organizations and/or health insurers that are willing to pay for phoney rehabilitation services.

Narconon is basically the same as $cientology with a different corporate and price markup structure. Narconon operations are actually franchises that are required to kick back 10% of their gross revenues to the owing organization. Also, instead of extracting a few hundred to a few thousand dollars at a time, Narconon requires an up-front payment of from $10,000 to $30,000. Included in this price is "detoxification," the risky $cientology Purification Rundown that has been linked to a variety of health problems including enlarged livers. Those that survive that step withoug serious medical issues enter the "rehabilitation" phase which is comoposed of $cientoloogy training routines (TRs).

Quote:
TR8 ... involves the individual commanding an ashtray to "stand up" and "sit down", and thanking it for doing so, as loudly as they can. Former Scientologists say that the purpose of the drill is for the individual to "beam" their "intention" into the ashtray to make it move.

Source.

Although Narconon claims a success rate of over 70%, they provide no actual evidence to support that claim. Independent researches have suggested a figure of 6% or so is more accurate. Narconon also likes to talk about its "success stories" but since writing a success story is required to even complete the program, those have no credibility at all.

Here is a site that exposes some of the reality about Narconon.

Like all $cientology operations, Narconon specializes in providing misleading information and often outright fraud. This list below is taken from this site

Quote:
1.Were you informed that Narconon is affiliated with the Church of Scientology and is organized on Scientology principles? Nrconon always denies this when asked; they are lying.

2. Did the Narconon franchise claim a 70% or better success rate? These claims are false.

3. Were you told that any of Narconon's staff were certified chemical dependency counselors?

4. Did Narconon claim to have in-house medical staff, and were there in fact physicians or registered nurses working fulltime at the facility?

5. Many Narconon clients arrive with medication needs, ranging from antibiotics for an infected tooth, to antidepressants. Did Narconon dispense all required medications per your physician's instructions?

6. If you required medical attention due to illness or injury, was appropriate care promptly provided?

7. Was the facility clean and in good repair, or did conditions differ considerably from what you were led to expect?

8. Were you promised recreational opportunities such as boating or volleyball, and were they in fact available?

9. Were you promised ready access to the church of your choice, and was that access provided?

If the answer to any of the above questions is "no", you may have grounds for asserting that Narconon defrauded you and thus is not entitled to keep your money.
