Bob Schmitz (Bawble) passed away on January 24, 2009. I have put together some of the messages that posters on the Ocala Star Banner Forums have made about him.

I wish that I knew him better. I will admit...I did cry a little over this. The forum will definately not be the same without his random views thrown in. I try to learn from the best...and well bawble in my eyes you were one of the best. Thank you for all the laughs Thank you for the debate Thank you for your passionate opinion And thank you for being you May your rest be peaceful and your family be blessed

But He was like family to me and others here. We may not always get along but we are still family. If his funeral is here in town I plan one going just to honor the old fart. I will miss him very much. Sorry have to go I can`t post anymore.

To say he was an 'independent' and an 'individual' would be an understatement. Sometimes his posts would make me so mad I could actually feel my blood pressure rise...but there's no mistaking that he was a very intelligent man. A few times we went toe-to-toe, but each of us always felt respect for the other. Be at rest my fellow forum buddy.....thanks for the memorable posts.

We will all miss him most certainly and I do pray that those closest to him are aware of the impact he had on those that have never personally met him. Thanks, pilot, that they can be informed of his intelligence, veracity and contributions to a place where we were able to share ideas, opinions and just plain orneriness. He will be missed.

RIP Bob - the forum won't be the same without you and I don't think anyone can disagree with that statement.
My condolences to his family.

He said a lot that we couldn't help but agree with because he was an intelligent man that did his homework...and at times we all wished we could hunt him down to wring his neck....but he will definately be missed. I can't help but be envious of all the folks in Heaven that will always have only the pleasure of seeing the loving Bawble. I knew he had a heart though he showed little of it, and not very often...but then that was part of Bawble's composition! I don't know about you guy's, but I'm gonna really miss not seeing posts by the arrogant, always right, always the know-it-all, always the smuggest, always the uncompassionate, always the synical, always the snotty....Bawble. But we know the guy went on to his afterlife not oweing a God blessed soul a darn thing that's for sure....how many of us can say that. Rest in peace forum buddy...you deserve your place in Heaven.

Originally posted by SGM (RET): Bob Schmitz; the grumpy, old man of the forum, the motorcycle enthusiast, and man of his principles. We agreed to disagree on a few subjects and agreed some others, but I always knew where he stood. He didn't want a big to do at his departure, but he earned one. This may not be a fancy church service but it is a fitting tribute to the man who didn't believe in church. We will miss his presence on the forums. My condolences to his family and friends.

I am sorry to hear of his passing. I really did not like him. I did agreed with some of his views, however he was a bit to pompous and kind of know it all. He did make a very good forum member. You could count on him to get things going. RIP Bawble.

I would like to share one memorable, and very positive, interaction I had with Bawble. It was 5 days before Christmas last year, and I had just posted the 12 Days of Cajun Christmas in response to a comment he had made about being in New Orleans at one point in his life. His answer back to me didn't even sound like the Bawble I was used to seeing on this forum. I was shocked, and very happy, that some place gave him such a nice memory. Some of you probably saw his post, but I have copied it below:
quote: Ah yes 8-more.. I enjoyed the Cajun story especially the name of the dog. I was living in Bay St. Louis, MS, (13 miles from LA.) so I could run down to the Quatah spend a few hours there and go home for supper. I went often. Took the cut-off for Elysian Fields and ran it down to the levee by the French market. I sold my home down there and moved to Atlanta with a lady I met. Always wanted to go back, but I went to mapquest and checked the aerial view of where I used to live and everything was gone-zo from the hurry-cain. Don't sweat the "generational" thing, I speak to it as a group, not every individual. I could go on and on about Nawluns. My kind of place. I realized that the cars I'd see parked at the bars in the mid-morning were not early drinkers they were still there from last night.
So, anyway, that's it. Not trying to make any other statement about the guy. Just wanted to share a memory that brought a smile to my face.
(By the way, the dog's name was Phideaux. You have to speak Cajun to "get it.")
As you can see, I included your comments at the end of what I ended up sending to Bawble's girl friend. I thought they did a good job of expressing his tone on the forums.
I was originally hoping to send everyone's comments but it became clear pretty quickly that that approach was not going to work. When I finished putting everything together as it is shown here, I thought about posting it on OSB but figured it would just attract more mindless attacks and troll droppings.
