It turns out that windmills are a poor choice of technologies for generating electricty.
Denmark currently generates 19% of its electricity with wind but, due to the unpredictability of wind, no fossil plants have been closed. And wind has had little impact on CO2 emissions as fossil plants need to be kept on spinning reserve to ensure power reliability.
As more wind is used, electricity prices start to skyrocket. Denmark's rate is 15 cents/kwhr, the highest in Europe.
A recent analysis in Spain concluded that 2.2 jobs were lost for each state-subsdized renewable energy (primarily wind) job.
Wind turbines subject those nearby to long and frequent periods of pulsating, low-frequency noise which leads to sleep disturbances and depression, chronic stress, migraines, nausea and dizziness, exhaustion and anger, memory loss and cognitive difficulties, cardiac arrhythmias, increased heart rate and blood pressure.
And, for unlucky neighbors, wind turbines have a major negative effect on property values -- in some cases, nearby properties are unmarketable at any price.
So, although wind is popular with the political elites that know nothing about it, widespread adoption of wind for electricity generation is actually an economic and environmental disaster.
